About this postcard
The view looks out from a rustic timber pergola on the Sunset Trail in Palisades Park, Santa Monica. A hanging sign marks the trail, flower beds and shrubs line the walk, and the Pacific and hazy coastal mountains stretch beyond. Palisades Park follows the bluff above Ocean Avenue, a long public promenade of lawns, palms, and overlooks that gave Santa Monica its seaside character. The arbor fits the park's early twentieth-century landscaping, when rustic structures framed views for strollers and sightseers. Daisy's note to Doll is ordinary summer correspondence: a planned trip, the cost of two weeks away, and the need to be back for school. She hopes to see everyone before long, provided the children or someone else does not get sick.
