About this postcard
The view looks out from a rustic timber pergola on the Sunset Trail in Palisades Park, Santa Monica. A hanging sign marks the trail, flower beds and shrubs line the walk, and the Pacific and hazy coastal mountains stretch beyond. Palisades Park follows the bluff above Ocean Avenue, a long public promenade of lawns, palms, and overlooks that shaped Santa Monica's seaside character. The arbor fits the park's early twentieth-century landscaping, when rustic structures framed views for strollers and sightseers. The card was mailed in the early 1920s to a family in Wooster, Ohio. The sender's note mentions children, summer expenses, and the coming school term, a small slice of ordinary summer correspondence.
