Superstition Mountain "The Quest", Arizona, circa 1940

About this postcard

A desert scene at dusk shows a lone figure beside a small campfire with a saddled horse or burro, saguaro cactus and scrub in the foreground, and the massed red-and-purple profile of Superstition Mountain beneath a sunset sky. The caption names the view "The Quest," a romantic title typical of the Western illustrator Lon Megargee, whose signature appears at lower left. Superstition Mountain, in the Sonoran Desert east of Phoenix, Arizona, is the state's best-known peak of the Superstition Mountains and the legendary setting of the Lost Dutchman's gold mine.
