Waves break in white spray against dark rocky ledges off Marblehead, Massachusetts. Above the shore, a cluster of shingled and clapboard summer houses sits on a wooded point, and a small yellow-sailed boat works offshore. Marblehead, a colonial fishing port north of Boston, became a summer resort and yachting center in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Its granite headlands and open water drew vacationers and sailors, and the printed caption identifies the scene simply as "Surf off Marblehead, Mass."
Thin light border; large dark speckled blemish/stain in the sky at center; monogram mark in lower right corner; slightly worn edges.
Postmark: AMESBURY MASS SEP 21 9:30 AM 1906. Undivided-back "Post Card" with printed sender-name space; light edge wear and a few foxing spots; front is a color litho view with no white border.
