About this postcard

A view across formal flower beds and lawn toward a large circular fountain playing in a plaza, with the tower and mass of Philadelphia City Hall rising in the distance behind a screen of trees and commercial buildings. The fountain is the Swann Memorial Fountain (1924), designed by sculptor Alexander Stirling Calder with architect Wilson Eyre and carved by the Piccirilli Brothers, its figures representing Philadelphia's three waterways — the Delaware, the Schuylkill and the Wissahickon. It sits at Logan Square on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the grand diagonal boulevard laid out in the early 20th century on the model of the Champs-Élysées.
