About this postcard
A view across formal flower beds and lawn toward the Swann Memorial Fountain playing in its plaza, with the tower and mass of Philadelphia City Hall rising in the distance behind trees and commercial buildings. The fountain was dedicated in 1924, designed by sculptor Alexander Stirling Calder with architect Wilson Eyre and carved by the Piccirilli Brothers. Its figures represent Philadelphia's three waterways: the Delaware, the Schuylkill, and the Wissahickon. It sits at Logan Square on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the broad diagonal boulevard laid out in the early 20th century as Philadelphia's answer to the Champs-Élysées.
