About this postcard

An oval vignette shows women and children on the stone edge of a lake in Sefton Park, feeding swans and ducks that swim close to the bank, with a small boat offshore and dense trees ringing the far shore. Sefton Park, laid out by Edouard André and opened in 1872, is one of Liverpool's great Victorian public parks, and its lake and boating pond were popular leisure spots. The scene is set within a printed ornamental frame of green and gold moulding, a common decorative treatment on early twentieth-century view cards.
