About this postcard

A colorized view of the Swiss Pavilion at the 1937 Paris Exposition Internationale, its white slab facade painted with a stylized mountain landscape and hung with the Swiss flag, crowds thronging the terraces and quays while an excursion boat with a red canopy passes on the Seine. The Paris exposition of 1937, held on the Champ de Mars and along the Seine opposite the Trocadéro, drew pavilions from dozens of nations in the tense years before World War II; Switzerland's pavilion was designed by the architect Charles-Edouard Jeanneret's contemporaries and stood among the foreign national buildings on the left bank.
