About this postcard
A still-life view of three relics attributed to Myles Standish — a basket-hilted sword laid across the table, a large iron cooking pot, and a pewter platter propped behind it — photographed against a plain wall. The caption identifies them as holdings of Pilgrim Hall in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the 1824 museum that houses the collections of the Pilgrim Society and is among the oldest public museums in the United States. Myles Standish (c. 1584–1656) was the English military adviser to the Plymouth Colony and a central, if often romanticized, figure in its early history.
