About this postcard
A long, low rustic hotel of dark log-and-stone construction with two tall stone chimneys stands among pines, with a broad gravel drive in the foreground and flower beds edging a rocky bank. The caption names it the Sylvan Lake Hotel, "in the Black Hills of South Dakota." Sylvan Lake, a small mountain lake in Custer State Park, became a popular Black Hills resort destination after the park was established in the early 20th century, and the lodge-style hotel served travelers touring the Needles Highway and Harney Peak country.
