About this postcard
Sylvan Lake lies calm and dark in the center of the view, reflecting a range of snow-streaked peaks. Dense evergreen forest covers the lower slopes, and a few tall pines stand on a reddish earthen bank at the left foreground. The caption names the spot as Beautiful Sylvan Lake at Sylvan Pass in Yellowstone National Park and describes it as "a dainty sheet of water surrounded by heavy timber and overlooked by high and rugged peaks." Sylvan Pass is the eastern gateway into Yellowstone from Cody, Wyoming, and the lake is a small high-country stop along that road.
