About this postcard
A narrow stream called Sylvan Rapids rushes through a deep rock gorge at Watkins Glen, with wooden stairways and railings carrying visitors along the cliff beside the water. The glen sits at the southern tip of Seneca Lake in New York's Finger Lakes region, and its shale walls and waterfalls made it a popular scenic stop; the state park was established in 1906, and the paths and bridges were built so tourists could descend safely into the gorge. The message adds a traveler's detail about a cabin night with stars visible through the ceiling and about seeing the whole glen before rain set in.
