About this postcard
The photograph shows the T. Eaton Co. department store on a Montreal street corner, a large multi-story commercial block with awnings over the ground-floor entrances and bare trees along the sidewalk. Several early automobiles are parked at the curb, and the upper floors rise in a plain grid of windows above the retail level. Eaton's was a Toronto-based department store and mail-order firm that built a national retail network across Canada. The Montreal branch was part of that network, placing the chain in the city's downtown shopping district in the 1920s.
