Table Rock and Ausable Chasm, Adirondack Mountains, NY, 1906

Card type
Lithograph

About this postcard

The view looks along Ausable Chasm, where the Ausable River runs between high, layered rock walls. A wooden footbridge crosses the gorge, and trees grow along the rim and the slopes above the water. The printed caption names Table Rock, a feature of the chasm, and places the scene in the Adirondack Mountains. By the early 1900s Ausable Chasm was a popular sightseeing stop in northern New York, reached by rail and explored along footpaths and bridges over the river. Scenic views of the gorge were common souvenirs for Adirondack travelers in that era.
