A wall of crevassed ice rises from dark water, its face jagged and streaked with dirt. A shadowed opening sits near the center of the glacier front, and the water below fills the foreground. Taku Glacier is a tidewater glacier in the Taku River valley near Juneau, Alaska. In the early 20th century, steamship excursions brought visitors and photographers to southeast Alaska's glacier fronts, and such views circulated widely as postcards.
