The drawing room at Terrace Hill in Des Moines centers on an Italian marble fireplace, one of seven in the mansion, with a carved white mantel and a dark fire screen. A large rosewood-bordered mirror above it reflects a 7½-foot rock crystal chandelier, and two white porcelain figures stand on the mantel and a nearby pedestal. Terrace Hill is a Second Empire mansion built in the 1860s for banker Benjamin F. Allen and later owned by the Hubbell family; it became the Iowa governor's residence in 1976.
