Texas State Capitol at night, Austin, Texas, circa 1940

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

Night view of the Texas State Capitol in Austin, its dome and long wings lit from within and floodlit against a dark, cloudy sky, with trees and a monument in the foreground. The present capitol, designed by Elijah E. Myers in the Renaissance Revival style and completed in 1888, is built of Texas pink granite and is famously slightly taller than the U.S. Capitol; its dome was restored and gilded in the 1990s. The grounds in front include monuments to Confederate and other figures, one of which appears at lower left.
