About this postcard
A pink granite capitol building with a tall central dome and arched entrance rises behind a lawn planted with young trees and curving walks, with an oval portrait medallion of Stephen F. Austin floating in the sky at upper left. The Texas State Capitol in Austin was completed in 1888 to designs by Elijah E. Myers, using Texas pink granite and limestone quarried by convict labor; its dome stands taller than the U.S. Capitol's. Stephen F. Austin, shown in the inset, led the Anglo-American colonization of Texas in the 1820s and is known as the Father of Texas.
