The card shows the weathered stone facade of the Alamo chapel in San Antonio, with its curved gable, arched doorway flanked by columns and niches, and small barred windows. A horse-drawn carriage waits at the left, and pedestrians in period dress stand along the street. The printed caption dates the mission to 1718; the chapel facade shown here dates from the mid-18th century. The Alamo is best known as the fortress where Texian defenders died during the 1836 siege, and by the early 1900s it was already a celebrated historic shrine.
