About this postcard

The Basin, a deep glacial pothole at Franconia Notch, is shown with its green pool of water and a small cascade spilling over a granite ledge, with a wooden footbridge and flume pipe crossing the rocks above. The Basin is a well-known natural feature of Franconia Notch State Park in the White Mountains, formed by glacial meltwater swirling sand and gravel to hollow out the granite. The Detroit Publishing Co. copyright line dates this photochrom-style view to 1907.
