About this postcard
A painted view of colonial militiamen in tricorn hats and hunting shirts firing from behind trees and a stone wall at distant red-coated British regulars in a haze of smoke. The caption identifies it as a Milwaukee Public Museum group illustrating the Battle of Concord of April 19, 1775, the opening fight of the American Revolution where Massachusetts minutemen confronted the British column returning from Concord. Such museum habitat groups, painted by staff artists, were widely reproduced on postcards in the early 20th century.
