About this postcard
The picture shows the churning white water of the Whirlpool Rapids on the Niagara River, with a large wave breaking against a mid-stream rock; a wooded, rocky bank rises behind and a steel arch railway bridge crosses the gorge at left, with a small red-roofed structure near the trees. The Whirlpool Rapids are the violent stretch of the lower Niagara River below the falls, where the river narrows and turns through the gorge; the bridge in view resembles the Whirlpool Rapids (Michigan Central) Bridge that spans the gorge between New York and Ontario. Such views were standard souvenirs for visitors riding the Great Gorge railway route or viewing the rapids from the rim.
