A dirt path curves through dense woods and crosses a small wooden footbridge with railings on both sides. The trees close over the crossing and the path disappears into undergrowth at either end, giving the scene the quiet, enclosed feel of a park walk.
Prospect Hill Park was Waltham's large wooded reservation, a place for shaded walks and outings above a city known in those years for its watch factories. Rustic bridges and footpaths were standard subjects for view cards of municipal parks in the early 1900s.
