A paved road curves past a cluster of tall, blocky granite spires known as The Chessmen, rising among pines and autumn-tinted deciduous trees in Custer State Park. The Needles Road (now the Needles Highway, completed in 1922) was engineered through this granite landscape of the Black Hills, and the formations here are among the park's best-known roadside landmarks. The card's linen-textured coloring gives the rock faces a pastel cast typical of mid-century view cards.
Linen-textured stock with a white border; Curt Teich production number '2A-H844' printed at lower right.
No postmark — unused card. Linen-texture C.T. Art-Colortone (Curteich) stock, divided back with vertical imprint divider, white border on front; light soiling/toning on back.
