A small group of visitors stands on a path at the right side of a large cavern, one figure in a white hat, giving a sense of the chamber's scale. Pale stalactites and columns fill the space, with the formation known as the Colonnade rising among them in muted blues, browns, and creams. Great Onyx Cave was one of the privately operated show caves in Kentucky's Mammoth Cave region, where guided tours highlighted formations like this one.
