About this postcard

The dam on the Kishwaukee River at Belvidere, Illinois, seen from downstream. Water slides over the low concrete crest into a wide pool, and the far bank is thick with trees and shrubs. A small frame building shows among the foliage at right, with a leafy branch overhanging the left edge. Belvidere, the Boone County seat, grew up along the Kishwaukee in northern Illinois farm country, and the river's dams were tied to the town's early waterpower.
