The Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia, is a large château-style building with steep roofs and dormers, seen behind a low wall and roadway. A tall conifer and an obelisk monument stand at the right, with a street lamp at the left. Built for the Canadian Pacific Railway and opened in 1908, the hotel became a landmark on Victoria's Inner Harbour and a stop for travelers arriving by steamship and rail.
