About this postcard

A view along Manhattan's west side where the express highway and Riverside Drive run beside the Hudson River, with tall apartment blocks rising on the right and a large suspension bridge spanning the river in the distance. The bridge shown is the George Washington Bridge, completed in 1931, and the riverside roadway is the Henry Hudson Parkway, opened in the late 1930s, which dates this view to the late 1930s or 1940s. Riverside Drive was laid out in the 1870s as a landscaped boulevard overlooking the Hudson, and by the early 20th century it was lined with the apartment houses seen here.
