About this postcard
A view up the narrow granite gorge of The Flume in winter, its walls hung with great curtains of ice and the floor buried in snow, with a wooden flume-like trough and a rustic handrail running along the passage. The Flume is a natural chasm in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire, formed by Flume Brook cutting through Conway granite; it became one of the White Mountains' most celebrated scenic attractions in the nineteenth century and was long operated as a private toll attraction before becoming part of Franconia Notch State Park.
