About this postcard

The view looks up the narrow granite gorge of the Flume in Franconia Notch, where a wooden stairway and railed walkway climb beside the tumbling water of Flume Brook between towering, moss-flecked rock walls. Discovered in 1808 by a local woman, "Aunt" Liza (Jessie) Guernsey, the Flume became one of the White Mountains' most celebrated scenic attractions and was later protected within Franconia Notch State Park. The card's copyright date of 1907 places it in the era when the notch was a favorite stop on New Hampshire's grand resort circuit.
