About this postcard

The card shows four white-hulled steamships steaming in line, each bow carrying an admiral's name—Farragut, Dewey, Sampson, and Schley—under the printed title "The Four Admirals-United Fruit Co's Steamship Lines." These were the United Fruit Company's Admiral-class passenger and cargo steamers, named for Spanish-American War naval commanders and employed in the company's Caribbean and Central American banana trade. The view is a color lithograph promotional image rather than a photograph.
