About this postcard
A high vantage looks down the length of the Niagara Gorge, where the churning blue-green river runs between steep rock walls banded in red, ochre and grey, with forested banks along the rim and a road or path cut into the right-hand cliff. The Niagara River carved this gorge over thousands of years as it cut back upstream from the Niagara Escarpment, leaving the Whirlpool Rapids and the cliffs below the falls that became a standard sight for tourists; the card's linen-era coloring emphasizes the mineral-stained strata of the gorge walls.
