A high vantage looks down the Niagara Gorge, where the river's current churns into the great whirlpool, framed by steep, darkly wooded cliffs and a pale sky. The Whirlpool is a large circular basin in the Niagara Gorge downstream of the falls, formed where the river makes a sharp turn; its swirling eddies have long been a standard sight on Niagara tour routes. The card's caption names it simply as the Great Whirlpool and Lower Gorge of Niagara.
Thin white border; faint scuff/erasure marks in the sky area; visible halftone screen texture.
Postmark: NIAGARA FALLS N.Y. JUL 19 11-PM 1916. Divided back with printed descriptive text at left; white border, color-printed stock; light edge wear and toning.
