About this postcard

A tinted view of The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's plantation mansion near Nashville, showing the two-story white brick house with its tall portico columns, second-floor gallery and flanking wings, framed by large trees with a group of visitors gathered on the front steps. Jackson bought the property in 1804 and rebuilt the house in 1819-1821; it was the family home until his death there in 1845 and is now a museum and National Historic Landmark. The gathering of men, women and children on the steps suggests an early twentieth-century excursion to the site.
