About this postcard
A white two-story plantation house with a tall columned portico and flanking one-story wings stands among large shade trees, with two figures resting on the lawn in the foreground. The caption identifies it as The Hermitage, the Nashville, Tennessee home of President Andrew Jackson. Jackson acquired the property in 1804 and built the original brick house there; the present mansion dates largely to a rebuilding after an 1834 fire, and the estate remained his home until his death in 1845. It is now a museum and historic site.
