About this postcard

The Hippodrome's ornate facade fills the view, with flags, a rooftop globe, and marquee signs advertising vaudeville and "The Plunging Horses." Automobiles and horse-drawn carriages wait along the street below. Opened in 1905, the Hippodrome was one of New York's largest theaters, built for lavish spectacles and variety shows. Fred wrote that he had just come from the theater and that the recipient must see it in winter.
