About this postcard

Jacopo de' Barbari's engraving sets the Holy Family in a wooded landscape. Two seated women gather around the Christ child and the infant John the Baptist, while an older bearded man appears at the left. The figures are rendered in the crisp lines and close detail typical of early Renaissance engraving. De' Barbari was an Italian Renaissance printmaker active around 1500, known for early engravings and a celebrated woodcut map of Venice. He worked in Venice and at northern European courts, and his prints were among the earliest Italian engravings to circulate widely.
