The James River at Lynchburg from White Rock Hill, Lynchburg, Virginia, circa 1908

About this postcard

The view from White Rock Hill looks down over the James River as it curves between wooded hills. A bridge crosses in the distance, and railroad tracks with freight cars run along the near bank. Mills and factory buildings with smokestacks cluster in the foreground. Lynchburg was a tobacco and manufacturing center in the early 20th century, and the riverside mills and rail lines shown here were part of that industrial landscape.
