About this postcard
View across the Moskva River toward the Kremlin, with a tall white wall tower and spire at left, the golden onion domes of the Kremlin churches behind the red brick wall, and long white commercial buildings along the embankment. Wooden barges and river craft are moored in the foreground. The printed caption places the Kremlin on the river's north bank at the center of Moscow and names the Cathedral of the Assumption, founded in 1326, and the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael, which held the tombs of the czars until Peter the Great moved the royal burial place to St. Petersburg. The walls carry 18 towers and five gates. The cathedral group visible here includes the Ivan the Great Bell Tower complex and the domed churches of Cathedral Square, the ceremonial center of the Russian state.
