About this postcard

A tinted view of the Lafayette Hotel, a tall red-brick and light-stone block with a rooftop sign reading "LAFAYETTE HOTEL" and an American flag above it, seen across a wide street busy with pedestrians, horse-drawn carriages and wagons. The Hotel Lafayette opened in Buffalo in 1904 to designs by Louise Blanchard Bethune, widely regarded as the first professional woman architect in the United States, and it remains a landmark of the city's downtown. The surrounding commercial buildings and the mix of foot and horse traffic date the scene to the early 1900s.
