A halftone view of the Laurel House, a large multi-story hotel, seen through a screen of bare trees and beneath a rustic pergola or veranda frame in the foreground. Lakewood, in Ocean County, New Jersey, was a fashionable winter resort in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and its grand hotels drew wealthy seasonal visitors. The Laurel House was one of the town's hostelries pictured on souvenir view cards of the period.
