The upper portion of the card shows pink Christmas roses (Helleborus niger) with yellow stamens and glossy green leaves, together with sprigs of red berries, above a printed panel telling "The Legend of the Christmas Rose." The text recounts the apocryphal tale of a poor shepherdess at Bethlehem whose tears, shed because she had no gift for the Christ Child, became flowers that turned pink at the infant's touch. The Christmas rose is a winter-blooming hellebore traditionally associated with the Nativity story.
Linen-textured stock with visible crosshatch weave; no white border; printed legend text fills the lower half of the picture side; series number G-200 at upper left of the text panel.
