About this postcard
A sepia halftone view inside a cavern, showing a broad flowstone slope and a heavy fringe of stalactites hanging from the roof, captioned by the card as "At the Leopard Skins, Penn's Cave." Penn's Cave, near Centre Hall in central Pennsylvania, is a limestone solution cave noted for being toured by boat along an underground stream, and it has operated as a commercial show cave since the late nineteenth century. Formations such as the draped "Leopard Skins" were standard stops on early guided tours and were commonly photographed for souvenir cards.
