About this postcard

Actors in Elizabethan costume perform Queen Elizabeth's Garden Party, a scene from The Lost Colony, the outdoor historical drama about the 1587 English settlement on Roanoke Island. A woman portraying Queen Elizabeth I sits on a throne under a canopy while men in doublets and hose stand before her; a brick wall and painted backdrop form the stage setting. Paul Green's drama opened in 1937 and became a long-running summer tradition on the island.
