About this postcard

The Moorland stands above the granite ledges at Bass Rocks, its broad veranda facing the Atlantic surf. Smaller buildings line the shore beyond the hotel, and the rocky foreground shows the coastal setting that drew summer visitors to Cape Ann. Bass Rocks became a resort area in the late nineteenth century, and the Moorland was one of its large seasonal hotels. A guest's note about swimming and riding lessons suggests the kind of summer routine the hotel supported.
