About this postcard

A dark, grainy view of the profile rock formation known as the Great Stone Face, silhouetted against a blank sky. The formation, the Old Man of the Mountain, was a series of five granite ledges on Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire, that together resembled a human profile; it was New Hampshire's state emblem and collapsed in 2003. The card's caption uses the popular nineteenth-century name popularized by Nathaniel Hawthorne's story.
