About this postcard

The Quadrangle's clock tower and arched balcony rise above lawns and trees at Fort Sam Houston. A stone-edged pond in the foreground holds white waterfowl, with low red-roofed buildings and a white colonnade beyond. The Quadrangle was built in 1879 and was the first U.S. fort in San Antonio; the old stone officers' quarters adjoining it date to 1881. The post was then headquarters for the Eighth Corps Area and home of the Second Division. The grounds held tame deer, swans, and peacocks.
