About this postcard

The Richmond Hotel rises behind a row of leafy trees and an iron fence, a tall multi-story building with a corner tower and flagpole; a smaller brick building stands to its right. The view is a tinted lithograph under a blue sky with clouds. The caption's "The Richmond Hotel" is a period variant of the name Hotel Richmond, the Gilded Age house built in stages between 1904 and 1911 by Adeline Detroit Wood Atkinson, a rare example of such a hotel raised by a woman. It became a regular meeting spot for Richmond politicians and a headquarters for campaigns of the era. The note on the picture side, dated 3-18-07, is a short hello to a friend in West Virginia.
