About this postcard

The massive brick and stone Stevens Hotel fills the view on South Michigan Avenue, its name lettered across the facade and trees framing the lower edges. Opened in 1927 by Ernest J. Stevens, the Holabird & Roche design was promoted as the world's largest hotel, with about 3,000 rooms. Conrad Hilton bought the property in 1945 and renamed it the Conrad Hilton in 1947. By the time of the 1952 postmark, the hotel had carried the new name for five years, but the printed view still used the older Stevens name.
