The Volunteer Organist (4) shows a church interior as a white-bearded old man leaves the aisle while the preacher at the pulpit bows his head and the congregation remains seated. The printed poem beneath recounts that after the service no one left except the poor old organist, prompting the preacher to say, "Good brethren, let us pray!" This is one of Bamforth & Co.'s sentimental song cards, which paired verses with staged photographic scenes.
White border; blue ink stains near center and over the poem; "4/4" and "BAMFORTH & CO" printed within the image.
No postmark. Undivided back ("THIS SIDE FOR ADDRESS"), Bamforth's Real Photos real-photo card printed in England; white border on front; two small punched holes near center; light soiling/creasing.
